Newtown 2010 Legacy Project

The production of a 20 minute documentary will be downloadable from the Newtown heritage website, and will provide an invaluable resource for the Newtown site guides, who can show it to groups prior to tours.
The heritage project and the development of the daytime visitor attractions at Museum Africa, Sci-Bono and the Workers Museum will bring many high-value tourists to Newtown during and after the World Cup.

A launch event is planned for the Newtown 2010 programme in April; the legacy project will be included as part of this launch.
The long-term management of the project and the maintenance of the trail materials will become part of the overall responsibility that the Newtown Management District. The project was made possible with funding from the National Lottery Board and the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, as well as support from Museum Africa and the City of Johannesburg’s Directorate of Arts, Culture and Heritage.
